Gerard Kennedy in Kelowna BC

I was in attendance at the Days Inn where Gerard gave his vision of the Liberal Party and of Canada. Vision impresses the grand sentiment in regard to having such boldness and creativity to guide the Liberal Party; but really Gerard Kennedy has more then a vision he has a plan. A vision is something a prophet may have of some paradise or of some great revelation of human nature; a plan is vision actualized.

Where other leaders, foreign and domestic, often spout idle sophistry; Gerard Kennedy has a record reflecting his practical nature. At the Days Inn Gerard reiterated the fact that 'a political party, the Liberal Party must base its actions on results and not lose touch with the working families.' If a plan does not achieve desired results, it must be changed.

One of the many climaxes in his speech was when he examined the change he would bring to the Liberal Party. That change would be real change; not just a change of face, but a change of principles and values. Change is necessary because the times have changed. Gone are the times of his generation, the "complacent generation" he poignantly termed, who had excellent healthcare, education, and other social benefits handed to them by their parents and grandparents. So we must change to insure that the children have the benefits that their parents had.

The change that is needed embodies itself in the new value of the Liberal Party of Canada. Gone is the archaic value of social justice, now is the time of enterprise. Social Justice has and will always have its place, in history. As times change so must the Liberal Party; as the times become more networked and global our values must surpass the past and encompass so much more. Enterprise is the value of social awareness in the economic sphere, industry and longevity. Its scope is more then economic justice but proactive fairness.

Gerard Kennedy raised the same sentiments in his audience; he successfully persuaded many of those in attendance. I hope I can say I look as forward to this Leadership Convention as Kennedy himself, because Gerard Kennedy will win, it will be my vision actualized.
