Gerard Kennedy On The Quebecois-As-A-Nation Motion

The Toronto Star in this article describes the last few candidates for leader of the Liberal Party who are not vote-grasping but actually trying to find what is best for Canada.

The article describes Bob Rae's and Gerard Kennedy's holding out from supporting the resolution. However in consideration of Bob Rae the article states:
"I'm not going to oppose the motion," Rae said in an interview later.
So the last Top candidate is looking at all the possibilities and formulating his position.
Before making a decision, Kennedy said he wants to know whether recognition of Quebecers as a nation "will influence future domestic or international court judgments."
Kennedy acknowledges Harper's opportunistic strategy and how it is impacting Canada at his gain. But he also identifies Michael Ignatieffs immodest behaviour in claiming credit for the upheaval this debate has caused.
Kennedy said it's "an interesting strategy if (Ignatieff) is saying this has gone according to plan."

He noted that the internal Liberal squabble sparked by Ignatieff created an opening for the separatist Bloc Quebecois to propose a motion recognizing Quebec as a nation, which in turn gave Harper the opening to step in with a counter-motion and cast himself as the saviour of Canadian unity.

"I'm not sure it's the crowning achievement of the Liberal party in recent times," Kennedy said.
Out of this comes a shining beacon of Canadian renewal. Gerard Kennedy is the only candidate left, and from this article, Gerard might be possibly considering opposing this divisive proposal.

Jack angry eh? That makes sense. Kennedy's taking his time on this issue and there's no rush for him.

Just wondering where he ducked Ballistic Missile Defence by the way. Never saw anything about that.
