Why Gerard Kennedy Should Be Leader: Number Four

Quote From This Post:
It is embodied in Conservatism that they do not truly represent the people, it has to be inherent in Liberalism that we do; Gerard Kennedy is that inherency.

Gerard Kennedy most clearly of all the politicians in the public eye represents the people. Every major idea he has put forth has been adopted by the Liberal Party, some by other candidates, and by the Canadian people.

Gerard Kennedy For Liberal Leader: Reason 4

Gerard Kennedy Puts People First

Politics is a field in which conflict is necessitated by competing ideas; if there is no difference of ideas, you indeed have no politics. The best idea from one group concerning an issue is put against the best idea from another group concerning the same subject; through debate or some conflict resolution device like majority voting, one idea is selected over the other.

It is the origin of these ideas that make the political spectrum. Liberalism gathers its ideas for the best Canada by determining what is best for the people, what the people want and need; then refining those ideas through experts and officials. Conservatism gathers its ideas through unattached discourses by Party members who only consider in their own eyes, what is best for Canada. This is rooted in the Conservative's negative view of human nature, that humans are not good judges of what they want.

In Liberalism, as in all ideologies, as ideas are the currency of politics, most politicians begin to focus primarily on ideas, almost forgetting the purpose of them entirely. It is wrong to assume that since innovative ideas get a politician elected, innovative ideas are what are needed. That is not the case. Ideas are not intrinsically good because they sound good, they are good because they make Canada better. Mediocre ideas, repetitive ideas, ordinary ideas are just as beneficial as innovative ideas when they represent the origin of ideas, the people.

The Conservatives in the last election advertised ideas that sounded good but were shallow in representing the people; in the end the Conservatives only won because we lost. It is embodied in Conservatism that they do not truly represent the people, it has to be inherent in Liberalism that we do; Gerard Kennedy is that inherency.

Gerard Kennedy most clearly of all the politicians in the public eye represents the people. Every major idea he has put forth has been adopted by the Liberal Party, some by other leadership candidates, and by the Canadian people. Most notably was Gerard's stance on Afghanistan. He stated either Canada renegotiates it's NATO mandate for a more effective mission or it withdraws; this idea represents the growing sentiment in Canada. Jack Layton, after a few days, tried to cash in on Gerard's idea but distorted it into an unrealistic, unrepresentative policy. The Liberal Party is mobilizing around Gerard's idea only furthering Gerard's voice for Canada.

Gerard Kennedy was the first candidate to speak for Canadian Farmers, standing up for the Canadian Wheat Board. Another leadership candidate quickly followed suit; so did the Liberal Party a few days later.

It is no wonder how Gerard can put forth ideas that are new and purposeful and gain such support, it is because he represents the people. In Gerard representing Canadians and putting forth ideas to the benefit of us all, I ask that you represent Gerard Kennedy at the Montreal Convention.
