A few days ago Gerard Kennedy released on his website a plan for stronger woman equality in direct contrast to a Conservative movement currently taking place in the conservative blogosphere.
In Today's Globe and Mail it related that "Several pro-Conservative Internet blogs have signed onto a campaign to eliminate Status of Women Canada, a Trudeau-era federal agency that promotes women's equality and advancement." In another article it stated: "The Conservative grassroots community is actively campaigning for the demise of this important agency which promotes the rights of women in Canada," said MP Maria Minna, Liberal critic for the Status of Women."
If one was to google, looking for a conservative blog denouncing the Agency for the Status of Women you'd find more then an abundance. There is one that I won't mention, but alongside the blog of course is an advertisement for a Catholic Singles Service, that would match you up with another Catholic; it has a headline in the ad "Faith Matters." The Blog begins with the title, "We need Status of Women Canada like a fish needs a bicycle," and goes into a lengthy attack on the people of the agency and its supporters.
This logically unfounded conservative movement must be stopped and is being addressed by Gerard Kennedy. In a published work, found at www.gerardkennedy.ca, Gerard has set out a proposal for greater woman equality. Kennedy stated that improved participation of women in Canadian economy is key in a globalized world. To improve Canadian competitiveness, he will bring the earning levels of women in line with those of men. Increasing the economic success of women depends on three key areas: childcare, taxation and the need for collaboration among business, labour and government.
Gerard is leading the attack to squash the conservative movement in its tracks. Not merely just countering the growing conservative sentiment but going on the offensive and fighting for equality that women deserve. In leading the opposition against the irrational Conservatives Gerard is showing what he is made of.
