Gerard Kennedy IS the left

As this race develops for leader of the Liberal Party, the more strategy comes into play. The further on in the race the more predictable the Leadership Convention becomes. As such at this present time the general sentiment is that Michael Ignatieff is in the number one spot; it doesn't matter if this is true, it only matters that most think this is the case. Public sentiment also advocates that Ignatieff represents the right or at least the more right of left in the Liberal Party. Reasoning then that Michael is in the percieved first position and more right, that dictates that the second position should be contrary to his.

The number two spot should be contrary to the right because there is an obvious split between the candidates. Between the ten, the political spectrum varies but it can be easily said that there are more right candidates and there are more left candidates. Thus since narrowing the field is inevitable at the convention, it is inevitable that the two major divisions become represented by two candidates, a more right and a more left candidate.

Since Ignatieff obtained his number one spot from perception it reasons that his counterpart, his competition be selected through the same means. But who is the percieved leader of the left in the Liberal Party of Canada? Well Stephane Dion's campaign admits, at least indirectly that Gerard is leading them. In a newsletter the Dion campaign quoted a journalist that stated: "That is exactly what M. Dion has been working on with all his trademark minutia and perseverance. His tenacity, as well as the priorities he has been championing, namely the economy, social justice and the environment, are sure to compensate for his modest war-chest. It should also allow him to move ahead of former Ontario minister Gerard Kennedy, the only other candidate that stands a chance."

Furthermore Maurizio Bevilacqua before he pulled out of the race admitted that Ignatieff, Rae, Dion, and Kennedy were a head of him in every possible scenerio.

All this indicates and confirms that the leader of the left in the Liberal Party is Gerard Kennedy. In fact this is the case, judging not only on public perception but on Gerard Kennedy's substance, his motivations, and his drive to improve Canadian society through practical idealism. Gerard isn't Michael's percieved second, but is the first of the left.

As the fields narrow the race will become a race between the right and left of the Liberal Party. The leader will be able to unite those two directions into a combined perspective that will lead the Liberal Party into a new generation.

I'm Scott Ross advocating for Generation Kennedy.

I would say that Kennedy is a rational centrist - Bob Rae is clearly the furthest left. Iggy is to the right in the party, and Dion doesn't have many policy positions besides the environment, so I can't tell.
